ASCI Health Clinic a Success

To kick off our Preventive Care Campaign, Duquesne University of Pittsburgh hosted an event for ASCI clients and staff, providing free flu shots and health screenings (blood pressure, blood sugar and carbon monoxide). Preventive care is what someone receives to prevent illnesses or diseases. It also includes counseling to prevent health problems. Preventive health care helps ASCI achieve a healthier workforce, which benefits staff who have insurance through the agency.

There were 28 attendees, and all 28 received health screenings, while 18 received flu shots.

“To achieve a healthier workforce, staff must get annual physicals and health screenings, and at ASCI, we want to make it more available to them.” —Shamena Thomas, HR Generalist

While they are not diagnostic tests, the goal of health screenings is to detect diseases, minimize risk and treat diseases as soon as possible.

“The event was very informative and convenient, because I was able to get my flu shot without the hassle of scheduling at my doctor’s office or calling off of work.” —Michelle Rainey, Administrative Assistant to Child and Family Services

“The [carbon monoxide] machine was cool to use because it showed us if we had carbon monoxide poisoning and how likely we are to get lung cancer. I really enjoyed myself,” Michelle continued.

Everyone who attended this event was put into a drawing to win two iPads, just in time for the holidays! The winners will be announced later this week.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event, and thank you, Duquesne University, for helping us stay healthy!
