ASCI Reads

ASCI Reads is a summer reading-comprehension program for children ages 6-12 during the month of July. The staff and interns who assist with ASCI Reads do not teach children how to read; rather, they help the children achieve higher reading levels and better comprehension.

Each summer has a theme, and this year’s theme is “Reading Colors My World!” Our 2021 theme will help us to practice our reading skills! ASCI Reads will venture into summer using a virtual platform and in-person experience to guide participants in self-exploration and enrichment. As a culminating activity, students will create a three-dimensional story called a “diorama.”

All these experiences help to increase the students’ interest in reading while practicing skills for improved reading ability both in a traditional and nontraditional way!

And children have the opportunity to go on field trips to places like the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium, the Children’s Museum, a rock-climbing facility and more.

Mostly, ASCI Reads aims to teach children that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and put in the hard work.
