Carnegie Library Accepting Submissions for 2022 Labsy Awards Teen Media Contest

Are you someone who loves to create? Allegheny county teens in grades 6-12 are invited to enter original creations, inventions, and works of art in the annual Labsy Awards teen media contest.

Teens may submit up to two entries.

All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Prizes will be awarded in each category.

  • 1st Prize: $250
  • 2nd Prize: $100

Categories

  • 2D Art & Design (paintings, drawings, prints, etc.)
    *Submissions from this category may also be chosen as cover art for the 2023 Ralph Munn anthology, an annual publication of entries from the Ralph Munn teen creative writing contest
  • 3D Art & Design (clay, 3D prints, models, etc.)
  • Filmmaking (original film)
  • Fashion (hand-made, modified, or up-cycled apparel and accessories)
  • Invention (a robot, video game, board game, web app, or other original invention)
  • Music (original composition)
  • Photography (original photo)

Contest Rules

  • Contest is open to all Middle and High School students (grades 6 – 12) in Allegheny County
  • No more than two (2) entries per individual will be accepted. These two (2) submissions can be in any combination of categories
  • All submissions must be original work
  • Submissions that do not conform to contest descriptions will not be considered
  • All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

Category Descriptions

2D Art & Design
Submit photographs, scans, or image files of your 2D original artwork created digitally or using studio art materials such as paint, charcoal, or ink. Judges in this category will be members of the arts community and will evaluate submissions using industry standards.

3D Art & Design
Submit photographs of your 3D original artwork created digitally, like a 3D printed object, or using studio art materials such as clay or papier mache. Judges in this category will be members of the arts community and will evaluate submissions using industry standards.

Filmmaking
Submit an original film of any length. Film can be in any genre (scripted, documentary, music, video, etc.). Judges in this category will be members of the local filmmaking community and will evaluate submissions using industry standards.

Fashion
Submit photos or patterns for handmade, craftily modifiied, or up-cycled apparel and accessories. Judges in this category will be local artists and fashion experts who will evaluate submissions using industry standards.

Invention
Submit an original invention. This could include a robot, video game, card game, website, app, or other digital widget or real-life gadget.

Music and Audio Recording
Submit an original song. Composition can be in any genre. Judges in this category will be members of the local music community and will evaluate submissions using industry standards.

Submit an original spoken word composition or podcast. Submissions should be no longer than ten minutes. Judges in this category will evaluate submissions using industry standards based on content and performance.

Photography
Submit an original photography. Photos can be of any subject, in any style, taken with any type of camera. Judges in this category will be members of the local photography community and will evaluate submissions using industry standards.
