Celebrating National Love Your Skin Day with Youth in Care

Every year on National Love Your Skin Day, we’re reminded that taking care of our skin is more than just a beauty routine. It’s a form of self-love. For youth in care, who often navigate complex emotions, shifting environments, and questions of self, this day offers something deeper: a chance to reclaim their confidence, celebrate their uniqueness, and embrace the skin they’re in.

At A Second Chance, Inc., we know that kinship care is rooted in preserving a child’s whole self: body, mind, and spirit. That includes helping our youth feel good about who they are, inside and out. Unfortunately, many youth in care face bullying, familial disconnect, or a lack of access to the resources needed for healthy skin care. Whether it’s learning how to manage eczema, finding products that nourish their skin type, or simply understanding that their features are beautiful just as they are, every young person deserves that support.

Loving your skin is an act of self-worth.
It’s telling yourself, “I matter,” even when the world hasn’t always made you feel that way. It’s about seeing your reflection and knowing you are worthy of love, care, and celebration, without needing to change a thing.

This National Love Your Skin Day, we encourage caregivers, mentors, and community members to uplift youth in care by:

  • Providing age-appropriate, skin-positive resources that reflect diverse skin types and tones
  • Creating safe spaces for conversations about self-esteem, body image, and identity
  • Modeling self-love by sharing your own skin care journeys.

Let’s remind every young person, especially those in care, that their skin tells a story: a story of strength, heritage, and hope.

To the youth in care:
Every part of you is a masterpiece. Today and every day, love your skin not just because it’s yours, but because it’s powerful.
