An Open Letter to Families and Youth

September is Suicide Awareness Month. This is a time to pause, reflect, and come together as a community to show support, love, and understanding for those who are struggling.

To our young people: Your life matters. Even on days when it feels heavy, confusing, or unbearable, know that you are not alone. Your feelings are valid, your voice is important, and your story is worth telling. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not a sign of weakness. There is hope, even when it feels far away.

To our families and loved ones: Your support can be a lifeline. Listening without judgment, showing compassion, and simply being present can make all the difference. Sometimes, the smallest gestures, including a kind word, a hug, or a shared moment, can save a life.

Together, as a community, we can break the silence surrounding mental health and suicide. Let’s replace stigma with understanding, fear with empathy, and isolation with connection. Encourage conversations, check in on one another, and remind those around you that help is always available.

This month, and every month, let’s stand together, listen with open hearts, and remind each other: You are seen. You are valued. You are loved.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out. You are never alone. Resources like the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline are available 24/7, providing confidential support when you need it most.
