You Are Beautiful in Your Skin

June is Beautiful in Your Skin Month, and here at ASCI, we’re taking this moment to speak directly to every young person in care: You are enough, just as you are. Every part of you is beautiful.

For youth in kinship care, it’s not always easy to feel seen or understood. You may have had to adapt to new homes, new families, or even new environments where you felt different. But let this month be a powerful reminder: Your uniqueness is your strength.

What Does “Beautiful in Your Skin” Mean?

It means owning your story and embracing every part of who you are—inside and out. It’s about finding pride, confidence in your reflection, and hope in your voice. It’s about rejecting harmful beauty standards and choosing instead to define beauty on your terms.

Beauty is the way you show up with kindness. It’s your laugh, your resilience, your creativity, and the way you light up a room with your presence.

Ways to Celebrate:

Mirror Affirmations – Start your day with a compliment to yourself. “I am strong.” “I love my smile.” “I’m proud of who I’m becoming.”
Create Art That Reflects You – Draw, paint, write, or dance your truth. Express what makes you you.
Lift Others – Tell a friend or peer something kind about them. When we see the beauty in others, we remember to see it in ourselves, too.

A Message to Youth in Care:

No matter where you are in your journey, your beauty is not up for debate. It’s real, powerful, and growing stronger every day. Beautiful in Your Skin Month is just one moment, but your light shines all year long.

Keep being you. The world needs it.
