Tiffany Haddish Introduces Internship for Foster Youth

Tiffany Haddish is giving back to California foster youth with an internship program that starts in summer 2021. She recently announced the program, which is operating through her nonprofit organization, the She Ready Foundation, in partnership with Ready to Succeed. This program will serve as a pipeline for talent that could lead to a more inclusive industry while also providing access to youth who otherwise wouldn’t be able to get into the entertainment industry.”The She Ready internship program will place youth that have been in foster care or youth programs in positions in media, arts and entertainment,” writes The Hollywood Reporter.

This paid internship pairs youth with mentors and “suitcases” filled with resources accepted applicants need for their role. Haddish described to David Letterman the feeling of getting her first suitcase, something her interns will receive: “I felt like I was a traveler, like I had a purpose, like I’m a person, like I’m not garbage, I got this — it’s mine, and my things are in here, and wherever I go I can take this with me and I’m going somewhere.”

Interns will receive transportation stipends and be eligible for refunds for any work-related costs, since applicants may come from low-income backgrounds.

“I believe that children that come from different cultures deserve a chance to work in the industry and I would like people that look like me to be able to represent me too in the industry.”

Haddish tells Hollywood Reporter.

To be eligible for the internship, current or former foster youth or recipients of youth care must be 18-25 years old, be legally allowed to work in the U.S. and attend a community or four-year college in California. Eligible applicants who aren’t chosen are still given exciting opportunities to attend industry and career events.

Much like our mantra, The She Ready Foundation philosophy states: “Every child that is removed from their parents deserves to have a suitcase, a safe place to lay their head, and a platform to follow their dreams.” As an agency dedicated to helping youth and families thrive, we commend the work Tiffany Haddish is doing to secure the futures of foster youth!
