Parenthetically Speaking: Virtual Parent Meeting

Parents are the first and most important teachers! Too often, schools make it difficult for families to be meaningfully involved in their children’s education. Maria Searcy will show families how to “walk the walk” and “talk the talk” to become confident advocates for the children. In these changing times, a home-school partnership matters more than ever!

Join Maria as she offers advice and answers your questions that are key to real family involvement and academic success for your children.

Emergency Town Hall: Eliminating No-Knock Warrants and Solitary Confinement

Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.

This webinar will feature the voices of Black women and their experiences of police harassment under the practice of “no knock warrants,” search warrants that can be executed without officers knocking or announcing their presence.

These warrants are disproportionately executed in Black communities and too often involve the wrong home or suspect, as was the case in Breonna Taylor’s murder by Kentucky police. Her mother, Tamika Palmer, will share her perspective on why no mother should have to experience the trauma and loss that she has due to this and other unjust policing practices that need to be changed nationally.

We will hear directly from Anjanette Young who experienced the trauma of a “no knock warrant” when police entered her home without warning and in error in 2019.

Participants will learn how this practice is being used in Pittsburgh and how efforts led by the Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) and other advocates, are working to end this practice.

Register for this event.
