Victory for Pennsylvania’s Students: What it Means

Recently, Commonwealth Court Judge Renée Cohn Jubelirer issued a landmark decision recognizing that Pennsylvania’s school funding system is inadequate, inequitable, and unconstitutional. She ordered the governor and legislature to come up with a plan to fix the system. The Education Law Center has worked on this case for nearly a decade and has worked on this issue for roughly 50 years. We are thrilled to celebrate this victory with you, Education Law Center!

“Therefore, the Court concludes that the appropriate measure is whether every student is receiving a meaningful opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and civically, which requires that all students have access to a comprehensive, effective, and contemporary system of public education.”

In the months ahead, the Education Law Center will continue advocating for equitable school funding reform, mobilizing with community partners, and addressing systemic barriers that prevent all students from thriving.

At this critical moment, consider donating to the Education Law Center. Join the efforts to ensure that state lawmakers provide all students with quality public education.

“Our story is incredibly powerful…So powerful it can change litigation and the direction of public education, because our kids need that and our kids deserve to have everything in Greater Johnstown School District that every affluent school district has across this commonwealth.”

Dr. Amy Arcurio, Greater Johnstown School District superintendent and petitioner, quoted in The Tribune-Democrat
