It’s Family Fun Month at the Free Library of Philadelphia!

Did you know that August is Family Fun Month at the Free Library? From summer reading activities and outdoor storytimes to movie nights and mindfulness programs, the Free Library of Philadelphia is a great place to make memories with the whole family! Check out their events calendar and find a virtual or outdoor event in your neighborhood today.

Have you been participating in the 2021 Summer of Wonder with the Free Library? You have until August 13 to track your progress with your Summer of Wonder passport. Summer of Wonder will continue to offer fun online activities through August 31 for kids, teens and adults! To find programs for all ages, including storytimes, book clubs, maker programs and more, visit their events calendar.

Once the Free Library of Philadelphia summer programs conclude, they will offer back-to-school support for Philadelphia students who will start school this fall. Check out their blog for information on resources, including the Literacy Enrichment Afterschool Program (LEAP), online homework help and their annual Fall Reading Challenge.

  • Rebecca Donner (All the Frequent Troubles of Our Days: The True Story of the American Woman at the Heart of the German Resistance to Hitler) on Monday, August 9;
  • James Lapine (Putting It Together: How Stephen Sondheim and I Created “Sunday in the Park with George”) on Tuesday, August 10; and
  • Rita Dove (Playlist for the Apocalypse: Poems) on Wednesday, August 11.

Did you know that the Free Library is currently offering outdoor programs as well as virtual options? Find an event that interests you! Here’s a sampling of what you can expect to find this month:

  • The Bird Lover’s Club for Kids at the Chestnut Hill Library meets weekly to learn about bird behavior through interactive activities, stories, and crafts! These activities are ideal for kids ages three and above, and siblings are welcome.
  • Shakespeare Park on Saturday, August 7, at 10:30 a.m. for a special event to close out Summer of Wonder 2021! Local author Janay Anderson will read her book I Love My Curls and teach us about hair positivity and self-love!
  • Join the Lillian Marrero Library for Cinema in the Grass, an outdoor movie day at the library, Thursday, August 12, at 2:30 p.m.
