DoorDash Launches Emergency Food Response as SNAP Funding Pause Threatens Millions

As millions of Americans wait anxiously for updates about their SNAP (food stamp) benefits, DoorDash is stepping in to help families put food on the table.

With federal funding on hold, over 40 million people, including 21 million children, 16 million working families, and 5 million seniors, could lose access to vital food assistance. Across the country, food banks are struggling to meet a level of need they’ve never seen before.

An Emergency Food Response in Action

DoorDash has launched an Emergency Food Response to make sure families don’t go hungry during this uncertain time. Here’s what they’re doing:

  • Delivering 1 million free meals through 300+ food bank and pantry partners in November.
  • Waiving delivery and service fees for about 300,000 grocery orders from stores like Sprouts, Dollar General, Giant Eagle, Wegmans, and more for SNAP recipients.
  • Donating fresh food and essentials from DashMart stores directly to local food banks in affected communities.

“No one should go hungry in America—period. Millions of families are worried right now about how they’ll feed their loved ones. Doing nothing simply isn’t an option.

Max Rettig, DoorDash’s Vice President of Global Public Policy.

For years, DoorDash has partnered with food banks through Project DASH, helping deliver over 8 million orders, equivalent to 135 million meals, to households in need. This emergency effort continues that mission, bringing relief when it’s needed most.

How We Can All Help

DoorDash’s initiative is a lifeline, but it can’t replace the vital role of SNAP. The reality is: our communities need everyone to step up.

Here’s how you can make a difference right now:

  • Donate food, funds, or time to your local food bank.
  • Support the Feeding America network to reach more families in need.
  • Advocate for full SNAP funding so families can access the food assistance they deserve.

If you’re a food bank or pantry interested in partnering with Project DASH, contact projectdash@doordash.com.

Because no parent should have to worry about feeding their children. No senior should skip meals to pay bills. And no one in America should go hungry—not now, not ever.

Thank you, DoorDash, for stepping up for families in need and showing what it means to serve with compassion, action, and heart.
