Dad Teaches Essential Skills on YouTube

Just like Rob Kenney and his seven siblings experienced, some children grow up without fathers, which can lead to a lack of basic skills that only fathers can teach. In an interview with Shattered Magazine, Rob shared his experience as a young boy without his father and how he sought God to help him forgive his dad just before he passed away. After forgiving his own father and becoming one himself—Rob has been married for 29 years and has two adult children—he wants to pay it forward for all youth who are fatherless.

“My goal in life was to raise good adults—not good children, but good adults,” he told Aleteia.

As his children grew up and created lives of their own, Rob wondered how he could help others. Quarantine seemed to be the perfect time to share some basic essentials for children who might be growing up in difficult circumstances.

So, America’s dad created a YouTube channel called “Dad, How Do I?” where he shares essential skills, from wrapping presents to changing a tire.

“I want it to be about everyday tasks, but I also would like to pass along some of the wisdom I’ve learned along the way to encourage people,” Rob said. “I thought I was just going to be showing people how to do stuff, but it’s kind of resonating on a whole different level.”

His helpful tips have really touched his audience, reaching 3.02 million subscribers, much more than he ever expected. Due to the overwhelming response, Rob released a thank-you video that has more than 1.7 million views!

“Kenney’s message of thanks is delightful,” shares Aleteia. “He doesn’t assume his tips are the best, and he’s aware of the many other sources online. He also recognizes his own failings as a father, and the importance of seeking forgiveness. And before ending on a corny dad joke, he expresses the need to just be kind to each other.”

During times like this, Rob is just what we all need: a caring and helpful dad who wants to share his life skills with all.

“I will do my best to provide useful, practical content to many basic tasks that everyone should know how to do,” he shares on his Youtube channel.

Dad, How Do I? validates the necessity for positive male figures in children’s lives. Now, millions of children who do not have present fathers can benefit from this gracious, neighborly and corny-joking dad!
