ASCI Delivers Groceries to Families in Need

Earlier this month, Governor Tom Wolf ordered Pennsylvanians to remain home as much as possible to reduce the spread of COVID-19. As families attempt to navigate this challenging time, ASCI staff in both our Pittsburgh and Philadelphia offices went above and beyond to shop for and deliver groceries to hundreds of families in need.

“At first, people in Sam’s Club looked at us funny because we were buying up the whole store, but once Misty told them why we were doing this, they applauded us … but this is what we do,” says caseworker Lisa Marino. “In a time of crisis, we figure out a way to support all of our families. That’s special.”

As the pandemic continues, keeping our families safe takes renewed effort. Kinship caregivers have to wear many new hats while trying to remain calm and be proactive. Providing these families with care packages is our way of showing gratitude and admiration for caregivers helping kinship youth thrive.

Alexandria Thomas says, “I really felt good about being able to provide this type of support to families. Although I did not deliver any items, I knew that every food item was going to someone who was looking forward to receiving it. With that knowledge, I packed each box with care and consideration for the family that would be receiving it.”

We appreciate and commend the amazing employees who have helped ensure none of our families go without food for their children. Your hard work does not go unnoticed!
