ProgramsKinship Care...It’s our purpose!

A Second Chance, Inc. supports kinship foster care that provides stability and continuity, maintaining a child's cultural identity and contact with their birth family. By placing children in the homes of the birth family's relatives or friends, parents can better concentrate on their efforts to improve their lives and home environments in preparation for eventual reunification.

Family Group Decision Making is a practice of empowering family members to create a plan to address concerns identified by child welfare agencies. During a FGDM conference, family members, friends, child welfare workers, and other professionals discuss the family’s strengths, concerns, and resources in order to create a plan to promote safety, permanency, and well-being for the family.

The FGDM model takes the decision making of away from child welfare agencies and allows the family the opportunity to resolve agency concerns. Allowing the individuals closest to the children make decisions regarding their care results in successful plans, promotes family closeness, and minimizes child welfare agency involvement.
