The Kinship Institute was established to assist County and State entities and non-profit organizations in providing viable program services to kinship families, and to share innovative ways to identify and develop existing employees into competent organizational leaders.

The Institute provides human services and child welfare professionals with technical assistance, consultation, training and resources to enhance the quality of kinship
programs and services.

A Second Chance, Inc. is the only known organization in the nation that exclusively provides case management and support services to the entire kinship triad (i.e. child, kinship caregiver and birthparent).

Established in 1994 as a community-based, non-profit agency, we have served over 4,500 children and 2,900 families in the Greater Pittsburgh area to date.
